Merry Christmas to All

Cute tiny Scarlett has found herself a wonderful family with a rat terrier fur sibling named Layla (and a cat too!)... She will be living it up in Spokane WA and I'm happy that she is finally going to get settled in with these great people and has found herself a great home!

Sunny days!

Scarlett got to come to work today for a visit and show off her cute self... She was quite taken with a co-worker and worked hard to show her how cute she is (and is she ever...) :)  She is obviously feeling better everyday... She loved being out, being in the sunshine and meeting all the people at work!

 Enjoying our sunny weather and my dead iris plants.... enjoy them, cause they are out of here this weekend!  She made herself a little nest in them where we could relax and soak up somem rays!

Happy Valentine's Day

Scarlett had a good day... lots of tasty food so her appetite is good... then we went back to my friends house for valentine dinner... with now 3 bigger dogs, 5 adults, 2 kids and 1 cat... she did great... always part of the action, going for kisses and pets to everyone - though she preferred Nate's lap... I don't know if she thought he was awesome, or it was because he was relaxing on the couch or a combo of both, but she found a spot on Nate's lap and we didn't see much of her until it was time to go home!

Feelin' Better!

 Scarlett is feeling much better these days, healing well and enjoying some play time.   And food... she's quite the picky eater but I've found some food that she just can't resist... Eat up little one! 

Her and Sasha are actually getting along quite well and will sleep close to each other with no issues and whenever Sasha goes barreling outside to check out whatever noise she hears and make sure no one is invading, Scarlett is right at her heels, checking it out with her...

As you can see in the picture - a little nervous about a belly rub, but wanting all the same...

Visiting Friends...

Took Scarlett out for a visit to my friends and she did great... She LOVED my friend's daughter Mia and just would not stop giving her kisses... They were BFF's for most of the night...

 She also met Sheriff and Sadie (Sadie over on the left).. a little nervous about them, but she quickly warmed up and hung out with them... No one one really interested in doing more than an occasional sniff and then wait for treats!

 While nervous around my cat, she got brave enough to take a stealthy sniff of black cat when his attention was diverted...

She had a lot of fun meeting new people, exploring new things and was tuckered out by the time we got her home!

Spay Day!

Scarlett was so happy this morning, she did her army crawl all the way down the hallway... super cute.. made me a little guilty knowing that she was going to the vets and that we won't be seeing her do that again for a bit...

The drop off at the vets went good.. She whined a bit in the crate when she arrived, a little nervous about what was happening. They adored her at the vets though and she's was quite the star... Everyone at the vets commented on how sweet she is and also equally on how tiny she is!  She is now spayed, microchipped and her extra baby canines were removed so she went through a lot!  She was quite the trooper, looking all bright eyed and ready to go home... Once back home we got tail wags when she got to get out of the crate, happy to be back in familiar surroundings...

 She went out an pottied and you could tell she's medicated cause afterwards, she just stood there, looking up and staring at the birds, wandering around, staring up at the sky some more.. and so forth.... so inside we went and she drank a little water and it was a good time for a nap! 

Scarlett had both of her baby canines retained (you can see in the picture to the left, a tiny left over baby tooth that didn't fall out).  It's common and usually removed at the time of spay/neuter surgery.

If they are not removed, food can be caught between the teeth, leading to early decay, tooth loss or gum disease (and stinky breath!). Their bite may be affected, which can in turn, affect their other teeth and gums.

Tomorrow Tomorrow...

 She is such a burrower... if her body won't fit, she will settle for her nose!    She is showing much more energy and has played with us much more in the past few days... she likes to play with your hands (she's very gentle, not even the littlest of gnaws) and just enjoys chasing your hands (sometimes feet too).. She's a bit of a hopper, bouncing around to get you.... I did get her to play with a rubber squeaky toy too but your digits she's after...

She is house trained and while still unsure of the doggie door,  she will go to the door.  If you come back in... she will use the doggie door to get in... but hasn't really got it all figured out for going out yet... or she just thinks it's just more polite if  open the door for her :)  

Tomorrow is a big day for her... It's her spay day, plus she has got her baby canines still retained so they will be removed at the same time...and she'll be microchipped too... Then we are onto the healing and lots of TLC to get her feeling better...

Treat Time!

 Scarlett wasn't sure what to make of the bully stick when we first showed it to her... Then she tried to hide it...Always make me a little sad when then can't enjoy a treat but worry about them and tried to hide them.. but when Cassie kept a hold of it, she was more than happy to check it out and finally get her chew on...then she was just a happy little camper... She even fell asleep while gnawing on it!

 
 Soon, she'll learn that treats are part her life and nothing to worry about (or that they will be stolen away)...

She's getting better about eating and we've learned that she needs a quiet space with no Sasha around and she will  settle down after a bit and eat... She still gets nervous with the little bit of noise or movement but step by step and she'll learn that there's nothing to worry about :) 

Rasberries!

 The cutest thing I have learned about Scarlett this past weekend?  When she falls asleep, her tongue falls out of her month.... And then when she wakes up?  It takes a bit for her to put it back in!   So adorable! 

We've been working with her to get her to eat more... She's quite the fussy little eater... I think once she settles in and gets to know the routine, she will do better... Today she ate quite a bit of some Evanger's soft food and I'll start mixing in some kibble in it tomorrow and see how she does. 

She also was much more playful today, chasing after a little squeeky toy.. I finally heard her bark... at Sasha even... and they had a bit of a bark war before settling back down... Not sure what they were saying to each other, but I hope they both got their points across!

Sleepy Sundays..

Scarlett continues to settle in... She is showing some house training skills... she doesn't use the doggie door yet but she knows to do her business outside...

She is a snuggle bug and loves to sleep under the covers!  She also likes to be touching you while napping

She is a picky eater but I'm hoping that with time and some yummy food, we can start to turn that around... She did enjoy some some "Satin Balls" which are a special high caloric food to help them to gain weight...

Today has been a mostly sleepy day... Wake up, pee, play, sleep... Wake up, pee, play, sleep... She's played a bit with me as she settles in and while she's awake - on her back and she paws at me... super cute.
